Miosytys + Anthony | Boulder, Colorado Elopement

If I could describe Miosotys and Anthony’s elopement in one word it would be simply, FUN. These two were awesome and so fun. It was clear from the first moment we met in the parking lot of the park that they were just stoked to be in Colorado together and solidifying their love.

As the videographer, it’s really important to work closely with the photographer and working with Austin and Jess Drawhorn was an absolute pleasure. They’re total elopement all-stars and really know how to make people feel comfortable and themselves in this emotional experience. After meeting up with Miosotys and Anthony we made the trudge up the hill at Chautauqua Park. That hill is a tough walk for me and I live and exercise at 6,000ft pretty regularly so when the couple said they were from Florida I expected it may take a little longer just adjusting the altitude but they were definitely powering up in their formal elopement attire. They earned my respect pretty quickly.

Once we got to the elopement ceremony site, Jess (the officiant), positioned herself to the side so the couple could feel closer and more connected with a person standing in the middle of them. It was a beautiful ceremony that I captured solely on my gimbal. Unless previously requested or if there are a lot of people at the elopement, I have migrated to film in one-take on the gimbal as setting up multiple cameras on tripods usually takes a fair bit of time and my goal as the videographer is to be as out of the way as possible so the couples I film can feel like their getting eloped for themselves and not for the three giant cameras set up to document their day. Sometimes less is more and the uneven rocky Colorado ground usually results in a long setup for tripods so the ceremony has mainly been captured on the gimbal for the past few months and I don’t think I’ll be going back any time soon. It requires a lot of attention as, since it’s one-take, I can’t mess up anything. The pressure is there but it’s very achievable.

After the ceremony, Austin, Jess and I took Miosotys and Anthony out for a little photoshoot up in the hills a little further up from the elopement site under the Flat Irons. Austin gave the couple some great photo advice such as “make sure you have a long neck when taking pictures as it’ll make you look slimmer and taller” and asked the couple to take a few deep breaths to really soak in the moment after being married. It was great advice and an important note to remember. Miosotys and Anthony walked around the hills overlooking Boulder, Colorado and Austin and I kept on shooting as the sky looked absolutely incredible! Miosotys and Anthony did some slow dancing overlooking the hill and it really made me tear up. I felt so honored to be there documenting such a special moment for these two. After I knew I had enough footage of them dancing I put my camera down for a second and just took in the site of these wonderful newlyweds enjoying their first dance as the sky blossomed and felt like a message from the heavens that love truly was in the air. It was a perfect ending to another perfect elopement.
