Eloping in the mountains of…

Boulder, Colorado

Colorado Elopement Videographer

As Colorado elopement videographers, we have the honor of capturing some of the most intimate and breathtaking wedding moments. Every elopement is unique, but some stand out as truly unforgettable. Katie and Brandon’s sunset elopement at Lost Gulch Overlook was one of those.

Nestled in the foothills of Boulder, Lost Gulch Overlook is a dream location for couples seeking sweeping mountain views, golden-hour light, and a setting that feels both adventurous and intimate. From the quiet anticipation of their first look to the heartfelt vows exchanged as the sun dipped below the peaks, Katie and Brandon’s elopement was pure magic. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at what it was like to film and photograph this incredible day.

5:30 PM – Arriving at Lost Gulch Overlook

The energy was already buzzing as we arrived at Lost Gulch Overlook, one of the most stunning elopement locations in Colorado. The golden light filtering through the pine trees hinted at the breathtaking sunset that was about to unfold.

As Colorado elopement videographers and photographers one of our first tasks is scouting the light and composition. Even though we’ve filmed here before, every day is different. The clouds, sun position, and even the wind shape how the footage will look. We set up our cameras, balancing the need for wide, sweeping landscape shots with tight, intimate moments that would tell Katie and Brandon’s story.

5:45 PM – First Look on the Edge of the World

Few moments are as emotional as a first look, and Katie and Brandon’s was nothing short of cinematic.

Brandon stood at the edge of the overlook, facing away as the wind rustled through the trees. We positioned ourselves carefully—one camera capturing the wide, dramatic scene of the mountains stretching behind him, another focusing on the details: his hands slightly fidgeting, his deep breath as he prepared for the moment.

Then, Katie stepped onto the path behind him. Her dress moved gently in the breeze, the delicate lace catching the light. She paused for a moment before softly calling his name.

As Brandon turned, his face said everything. A mix of joy, love, and disbelief at how stunning Katie looked. This is why elopement videography matters - it’s about capturing the real, raw emotion that photos alone can’t always convey.

We let them soak in the moment, guiding them to move naturally while we captured every detail. The embrace, the soft whispers, the way Brandon brushed a strand of hair from Katie’s face. It was perfect.

6:10 PM – Sunset Ceremony & Vows at Lost Gulch

As the sun dipped lower, the world felt like it paused just for them. The golden glow wrapped around them as they exchanged vows, standing on a rocky outcrop with the mountains unfolding behind them.

One of the challenges of being an elopement videographer in Colorado is dealing with the elements. The wind at Lost Gulch can be unpredictable, so we used lav mics hidden in Katie and Brandon’s outfits to capture their vows clearly while ensuring the natural ambiance of the setting remained untouched.

Their vows were deeply personal. They spoke about the adventures that led them to this moment, the small things they love about each other, and the promises they would keep—not just for the big milestones, but for the everyday moments.

Capturing these vows is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do. Unlike traditional weddings, where vows are often lost in a sea of background noise, elopements allow for an intimacy that feels timeless.

We framed our shots carefully:

  • Close-ups of their hands as they held onto each other.

  • The emotion in their eyes as they spoke, unguarded and deeply present.

Then, with the final golden rays illuminating them, they sealed their vows with a kiss.

6:25 PM – Post Ceremony Celebration

What’s an elopement without a little celebration?

These small moments of joy are what make elopement videos so special. Although it’s easy to think that it’s all about the vows or the location, it’s just as much about the in-between moments, the realness of it all.

As the sky turned from gold to deep blue, we packed up our gear and headed down the mountain, knowing we had documented something truly beautiful.

6:37 PM – Photos at Chautauqua Park

With just a little daylight left, we headed down to Chautauqua Park, another Boulder gem. The setting here is different as we stood in a lush meadow with the dramatic Flatirons towering behind. This gave us a chance to capture a different aesthetic while keeping the elopement vibe consistent.

We let Katie and Brandon be themselves encouraging them to walk hand in hand, spinning in the open fields, stealing kisses while their laughter filled the crisp evening air.

7:10 PM – Wrapping Up & Reflecting on an Unforgettable Day

As Katie and Brandon drove off as newlyweds, we packed up our cameras with a deep sense of gratitude. Every elopement is a new adventure, and theirs was one for the books.

From the emotional first look to their heartfelt vows against a mountain backdrop, their day was a perfect example of why eloping in Colorado is so special.

This is what we love about being Colorado elopement videographers. We don’t just document a wedding, we tell a story. A story of love, adventure, and the incredible landscapes that make these moments feel larger than life.
